How to change Firmware settings for a specific region or Vendor for Telit modules?

Question

I use a Telit module and want to be able to use my module in a specific region in the world. Is there a way to change the settings automatically depending on vendor or region for the application?

Solution

Telit modules do have an AT command that allows you to change the Firmware Image for your desired region or network provider.

The command AT#FWSWITCH allows you to set the Active firmware image.

The Telit modules that currently have this AT command available

  • Telit LE910Cx

  • Cinterion MV32-W

  • Telit LN920 Family

  • Telit FN980 Family

  • Telit LM940 Family

  • Telit FN920C04 Family

  • ME910C1

  • FN990 Family

Example given:

I have an application with Telit FN990A40 that I want to use in the US with the operator AT&T, and then how do I change to the correct Firmware Image?

Start up with locating the AT command guide (check out our webpage for the latest AT command guide), and locate the command FWSWITCH and the searched for Firmware Image.

Then, depending on what OS you are working with, you can either use a terminal program like YAT or TerraTerm in Windows or Minicom or a similar program for Linux.

Send the command

AT#FWSWITCH=10

Let the modem reboot, or if the modem doesn't reboot itself, send

AT#REBOOT
